About the Author

Spencer Heaton, M.D., M.B.A., Chief Medical Officer for ArborMetrix, is an experienced physician-executive with a valuable perspective that helps him lead ArborMetrix in its delivery of clinical analytics and registry solutions for medical specialty societies, hospitals, hospital associations, and health systems. Dr. Heaton provides strategic guidance to ArborMetrix’s team and clients to help them support quality improvement and optimize success with quality reporting. Spencer earned his M.D. and M.B.A. at the University of Michigan, and completed residency training in anesthesiology at the University of Michigan Health System. Following residency, he completed subspecialty fellowship training in pain medicine at Johns Hopkins. He has experience in private medical practice, including founding a comprehensive sports medicine, spine, and pain management clinic. In addition to his clinical roles, Dr. Heaton is a contributing author for two medical textbooks in the fields of pain management and neurology. He has experience in medical device and pharmaceutical development, as well as life science venture capital. He most recently functioned as the healthcare team lead for the University of Michigan Wolverine Venture Fund.
