In partnership with the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, ArborMetrix has launched the National Interventional Pain Management – Qualified Clinical Data Registry to help interventional pain physicians fulfill requirements of the Merit-based Incentive Payment System under the CMS Quality Payment Program. The NIPM-QCDR is approved by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for the 2017 reporting year.

The NIPM-QCDR captures and analyzes data that are clinically relevant and appropriate for interventional pain physicians. It includes 43 MIPS measures, as well as 9 QCDR (non-MIPS) measures specially developed by ASIPP for interventional pain management with guidance from ArborMetrix.

The suite of features and reports ArborMetrix has made available in the NIPM-QCDR make it easy for physicians to see how they are performing, identify and implement best practices, improve care, and optimize CMS quality reporting. The registry provides real-time, on-demand reports to give physicians easy access to the information that helps them propel performance and improve care.

ArborMetrix supports several CMS-approved registries in addition to the NIPM-QCDR, and its current medical society customers have experienced growth in registry participation through QCDR reporting. “The medical specialty societies we serve and their members are seeing great utility and value in QCDRs,” said Spencer Heaton, M.D., M.B.A., Chief Medical Officer, ArborMetrix. “Given the broad functionality of QCDRs to facilitate quality improvement activities and CMS reporting requirements in a specialty-specific manner, societies are developing their own measures and supporting QCDRs.”

The number of QCDRs available to specialist providers grew by more than 60% from 2016 to 2017. There are more than 700 quality measures within these registries. With these clinically relevant measures, society-operated QCDRs such as the NIPM-QCDR provide cost-effective CMS reporting solutions that complement their membership’s clinical practice. In addition, QCDRs are used for a variety of purposes beyond CMS reporting, such as performance feedback and benchmarking, long-term clinical outcome data collection and analysis, clinical quality improvement, and population management.
